Neuer gets first red card as Bayern lose to Leverkusen 0-1, DFB-Pokal exit
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, 38, was sent off for the first time in his 866-game career. After being sent off in the DFB-Pokal last-16 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on December 3.
Neuer was sent off straight in the 18th minute for a challenge on Jeremie Frimpong from the ยูฟ่าเบท edge of the area as the last defender, allowing Israeli reserve goalkeeper Daniel Peretz to make his debut for the Bavarians.
Throughout his playing career, Neuer has received 23 yellow cards at club level but never a red card, while in 124 appearances for Germany he has never been booked.
German coach Julian Nagelsmann, who acted as pundit for the game, said it was a red card without a doubt. Neuer is usually good at reading the game and catching the rhythm of play in the empty spaces, but this time he should have been more calm.
The game ended in a win for Leverkusen with Nathan Tella scoring the winner in the 69th minute.
